i'm really frustrated that i will never know what happens beyond the year 2100 at the absolute most.

actually living forever seems to have its hang-ups, and i know a lot of you are real depressive types and hate life, but i think it would be cool to be a 200-year-old oracle.

file this under the same category as inter-galactic space travel.

i just can't imagine the weight of all the guilt and regret that will weigh down me by the time i'm 50, much less 200.

as grown up sci fi nerd, it really bums me out i'll never (probably) see space travel, or that around the time i die the "future" i grew up with will just be arriving.

but personally speaking it just seems like the longer you live the worse things get and i am pretty sure there is a limit on annual disappointment the human psyche can take.

My dad's mother is 93 and my mom's grandmother is almost 101. I'm never going to die.

how is it that any time a thread gets started with an open ended question that is remotely thought provoking most of the responses don't match up with it at all?

this is such a good thread, sad bastards notwithstanding (not excluding myself here). let's talk about what we'd see at 200.

The concept of "not knowing what happens past 2100" doesn't really mean much to me, considering how little I feel like I know about the year of our lord 2010, much less any other. the one thing I'm truly curious about, future-wise, is what the perception of the current time will be in 50, 100, 200 years.

well, on a basic level, i just consider something like this being a matter of existence vs. non-existence. if non-existence is permanent, and existence has some sort of value, why wouldn't i want to exist for as long as possible?

but also, i think about the perspective you can really only get from a life that spans centuries. being able to watch generations of people live and die, ebb and flow, i think that's one of the reasons why things like the holy grail or whatever other story hold so much interest.

to live that long, youd have to be granted some kind of immunity in regards to physical health....and once that happens, youre dealing with an entirely different existence

to be free from having to worry about shit like getting cancer, thats just not life as we know it

if it could be arranged, though, id probably be down

i think there's a woman in georgia (the country) who just had her 130th birthday.

i personally am grateful for whatever time i get. yes, for pure curiosity's sake i would love to know what happens 100 years from now. and there is no such thing as non-existence, matter can't be created or destroyed so we have always been and will always be on the earth.

you know what i mean, lauren. i'm talking about time spent as a conscious being.

and you're also over-looking the reality that humans are aliens, sent here to corrupt the mother goddesses of life.

and this is all about for curiosity's sake.

With nanotechnology on the horizon, it's not retarded to think that medicine in the next 20-50 years could improve standards of living by decades. From a medical point of view I wouldn't be too depressed about dying before shit starts to take off.
