Celtic's hopes of entering the new year by narrowing the gap to Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premier League have been squashed by the postponement of their match at Kilmarnock tomorrow.
Tony Mowbray's team may now go into the Old Firm game at Celtic Park on Sunday seven points behind their Glasgow rivals who take on Dundee United tomorrow night.
Celtic's match at Kilmarnock – called off because it has been ruled unsafe for spectators to travel to the game – is not the only game in Scotland to be affected by the weather.
Tonight's scheduled match between Aberdeen and Falkirk and tomorrow's between Hamilton and St Mirren have also been postponed. "The playing surfaces were in order but in both cases the police made the decision on the grounds of public safety," said an SPL spokesman.
"We are in touch with our clubs about the other games and will keep everyone updated with any developments."
The matches between Rangers and the third-placed Dundee United and Hearts against Motherwell are the only fixtures still due to take place tomorrow night.
