It's about delayed gratification: if St Peter (a synecdoche here for the rewards of the afterlife) is your goal, and you are willing to work your entire life towards it (with enhanced dopamine levels), the you must be human, because no monkey can do that.
FWIW I've read two of those three books GrrlScientist mentioned, by Sapolski, and I love them both.
