Leeds Guide
This mammoth site contains around 10,000 pages, representing a local what's on magazine. The main content is reviews and event listings, so efforts were made to imitate some aspects of print design (notably the columnar layout) without making the mistake many magazine publishers make online and attempting to simply recreate print design on the web.
In programming terms, the site features some rather special tools - the Food Finder uses a combination of AJAX and JSON to run a complex query returning real time results based on user input on restaurant preferences. A similar tool allowing users to click on a Google Map to set their location and see nearby events is also in development.
In design terms, the city skyline was worked into the top bar of the site to constantly reinforce the brand's presence in Leeds. Font usage was based on similar choices in the magazine and articles even feature a printer friendly version that mimics the print version in aesthetics and appearance.
