Three Chords
You might recognise this one. Sadly left unused, this dark but rich design was intended for a blog that this site once held. The concept informed the design, with the main conceit being a list of three items, related to the web/design industry, posted three times a week. Keeping to quirky simplicity was key for the design, so the typography is the focus, with a logo solely constructed from glyphs. Similarly, the main content column was sized conservatively in order to reduce line length for maximum reading pleasure.
I also experimented with bold headings, using mustard background colours to accentuate their appearance. Also breaking them up into block-sized chunks, I attempted to create a visual style that felt like it occupied more than two dimensions.
